John Lee Hooker must be one of the most photogenic blues singers in rock history. His hat, shades and guitar are always with him, and he is always singing and playing. Or chilling, with his hat, shades and guitar.
John Lee Hooker just with his usual accessories: a hat, shades, and his guitar
John Lee Hooker playing the blues.
Singing, playing and sweating.
As always, playing the blues.
In this early picture, John Lee Hooker only has a guitar, he wears no hat or shades. I guess the "John Lee Hooker image" had not formed yet.
Things we get fixated as a society. Cultural icons, in other words.

When my contemporaries in the late 50's were listening to Elvis Presley I, a young white boy, was listening to John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins, Slim Harpo, Lightning Slim,Howlin' Wolf,Big Bill Broonzy, BB King, Jimmy Reed, who said,"I'm goin' to New York if I have to walk!", Ahmad Jamal, et.al. I am still a blues man. I remember a line from an old blues song that went, "Even the dakest night isn't black, it's just dark blue! Long live the blues, along with rock'n roll.
